I've taught in the Austin Independent School District since 2000. My first three years were at Johnston High School where I taught Anatomy & Physiology (Honors), Aquatic Science and Integrated Physics & Chemistry. I currently teach Astronomy, Earth & Space Science and Physics at Austin High.
Prior to moving to Austin, I was an assistant professor of geology at Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, KY.
I earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in biology from Bowling Green State University and my Master's of Science from Texas A&M University. At both universities I focused on marine biology. I have worked as a biologist for the Texas Engineering Extension Service, the National Marine Fisheries Service, Shriner's Burns Institute and the Texas Water Commission. I have done field work in the Gulf of Mexico, Florida Keys, Caribbean Sea, in the Pacific off California and in the Beaufort Sea off Alaska's North Slope.
My Doctor of Philosophy degree is in geology from the University of Cincinnati. There I studied the process of fossilization. My dissertation field work was done in the beautiful waters of the Florida Keys.
I'm married and have a son who is an Austin High graduate. My hobbies include reading, camping, travel and scuba diving. I have been a certified diver since 1978 and was first certified as an Open Water Instructor in 1984. I was certified as by the Professional Association of DIving Instructors as a Master Instructor in 1989.
